"I believe that in our patriarchal culture menopause has been seriously undermined and dishonoured and that it's time for that to change."
My Philosophy
I believe that menopause is a natural process with it's own inherent wisdom, not an illness or deficiency to be medicated away or fixed.

I believe that menopause is a call from the soul to listen deeply to ourselves and an invitation to do things differently, not something to be pushed through in a desperate attempt to carry on 'business as usual'.

I believe that menopause is a time of descent - a death followed by a rebirth - and as such it needs some level of holding and support. I also believe that in our death-phobic culture, the descent of menopause is a counter culture process and is therefore even more likely to need support.

I believe that those of us going through menopause in this culture need spaces to drop and be held, where all our emotions and all parts of us are welcomed exactly as we are. I believe there is deep wisdom in the need to drop, and deep wisdom in our emotions, even the difficult ones. Especially the difficult ones.

I believe that although physical approaches such as diet, supplements and in some cases hormones can be an important part of the puzzle, if we don't tend to the emotions and the inner work we miss something of vital importance for our growth and healing.

I believe that the body is central to our healing ("you gotta feel it to heal it"!) In fact I believe that for healing to be truly effective it has to be holistic; to include mind and body, soul and spirit, to embrace our difficulties and shadow, as well as our dreams and our light.

I believe that healing isn't something we do, it's something that happens when we create the right environment; healing happens when we have a safe, sacred space where all parts of us are welcome. I believe that in perimenopause we need this kind of radical acceptance more than ever.

I believe in helping each perimenopausal person to find their own way through this highly personal transition. And I believe that having a structure, a kind of 'map of the territory', can make all the difference between flailing around in the dark and being able to trust and work with the process.

I believe that menopause can be an opportunity for deep healing and with the right map and the right support we can come out the other side of menopause more in touch with who we are, and more in touch with our aliveness and passion.

And I believe that we don't just go through menopause for ourselves, but for the world:

I believe that the world needs more of the qualities that we are called into in perimenopause; more rest, more stillness, more deep listening.

And I believe that the world needs more people who have gone through conscious menopause, who have faced the darkness and come out the other side rested, renewed and ready to serve. The world needs the wisdom and compassion and fierce love of empowered post menopausal women and people.

A bit about my background:

I have been using Shiatsu for 18 years, to help people transform pain and difficulty; to connect with their bodies and emotions, and to access their inner wisdom.
I gained my Diploma in Shiatsu after completing the 3-year training with the Bristol School of Shiatsu, one of the longest established Shiatsu schools in the UK. I have also completed post-graduate study with the school, and was a teaching assistant with the school for many years.
My experience includes working as a shiatsu practitioner for charities Naomi House, a mother and baby home for women with a history of street sex work; and the Rosie Crane Trust for bereaved parents.
Prior to developing my healing work, I spent a decade as a freelance artist working in education, where I worked with children, young people and adults, and found great joy in using my creativity to bring beauty into the world and helping others to do the same.
I first encountered Shadow Work® in 2009, and was so impressed with the depth, power and safety of this work that I began my training soon afterwards. I am a qualified one-to-one Shadow Work Coach and Shadow Work Group Facilitator and regularly run Shadow Work weekends with my partner and co-facilitator Tim Hall.
My work with clients is also supported by training in Transformational Dialogue and Body Focused Enquiry with Keith Phillips, and experience from my own healing journey and personal practice of 5Rhythms Dance, yoga and T'ai Chi. Other passions include drawing, writing and being in nature.
There are 3 Pillars to my menopause work:

1. Somatic work (listening to and working with emotions, feelings, sensations and symptoms in the body and working with imagery that arises from bodily sensations)

2. Inner work (in this case Shadow Work® which includes inner child work, processing unresolved wounds and traumas, healing old survival strategies that are no longer working for us, and harnessing our life force energy by welcoming all parts of ourselves)

3. Cyclical awareness (my 'Menopause Map' based on the wisdom of the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine)
